About Alicia
Alicia Joy Rydings fell into the world of costuming first as an actress. In junior high and high school she usually wound-up playing the leading roles as well as costuming entire school productions. She soon realized that her true passion was for costuming productions rather than starring in them. Alicia moved to Los Angeles and began studying fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) to then later obtain a coveted spot in the prestigious Advanced Study theater Costume Design Program.
While at FIDM Alicia studied under talented industry professionals such as Costume and Textile Designer Francine LeCoultre (Valkyrie, The Mummy, Mission Impossible III), Taylor/Draper Paul Girard (Last Samurai, X Men 2), Fashion Designer Nick Verreos (Project Runway), and respected Theatrical Costume Designer Carin Jacobs, to name a few. Learning from such well-known and respected professionals in the industry helped Alicia to further develop her skills, as well as gaining a full understanding of how the costume design industry works.
Since earning her Fashion and Costume Design degrees at FIDM she has designed several feature films. She has designed a wide variety of genres, from a large range of time periods with varying budgets. One of her latest films 'Son Of Morning' staring Heather Graham, Danny Glover, Lorraine Bracco, and Joseph Cross is due for release next year.
Beginning her costume design career as an actress, Alicia feels that she can bring a sympathetic and character driven perspective to her costumes that actors feel good in and appreciate, while also working closely with the Director and Production Designer to achieving their vision. Alicia currently works freelance out of Los Angeles, California with the goal of designing epic films.
